St Giles’ Fair is traditionally held in Oxford on the Monday and Tuesday following the first Sunday after St Giles’ Day, which is 1st September; in 2017, it will be on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th, during ICFP. The Fair was first recorded as a parish wake in 1624; since Victorian times, it has been a somewhat rowdy fun fair. It colonizes St Giles, the wide boulevard leading south from the Maths Institute towards the city centre; you’ll find shooting ranges, hot dog vans, and alarmingly large fairground rides crammed between the old buildings. (If you do visit, it is worth keeping an eye on your valuables.)
